“But in the end, it's only a passing thing this shadow, even darkness must pass. A new day will come, and when the sun shines, it'll shine out the clearer. I know now folks in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding on to something. That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for.”

The Work
Hello! My name is Miriam Kahn and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in both MD and DC. I have experience working with folks of all ages and currently specialize in treating adolescents, young adults and adults. I have experience working in schools, community agencies and private practice.
I often work with folks navigating trauma, depression, anxiety, life changes, grief and loss, and perinatal challenges. I am trained in cognitive behavioral techniques through a trauma-informed, attachment-focused and values-based lens, however, I integrate a variety of expressive arts and mindfulness approaches in therapy sessions. I am particularly passionate about the power the human-animal bond can offer in therapy and have worked with the assistance of my dog, Tucker, to create a space that allows clients to access thoughts, feelings and strategies in a way that more traditional therapies may not offer.
I utilize humor and transparency with clients as I know vulnerability can be difficult in a new space. To me, trust and rapport is the foundation to a strong therapeutic relationship and I believe being invited to listen to others’ stories is an honor. Therapy is not a “one-size-fits-all” approach and my goal is to work together to identify a therapeutic process that is unique to each individual’s strengths and growth areas. I look forward to working together to achieve the growth and change you desire in a safe and supportive setting.
