Hi! I’m Sherri (she/her). I’m a counseling intern, completing my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Wisconsin, and YOU are a complex, multi-faceted person whose mind, body, and spirit deserve tending to. I have specific interests in intimate partnerships (including non-monogamous relationships), complex medical trauma (including chronic pain, diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and end-of-life); caregiver/clinician needs; grief and loss; anxiety; and navigating life transitions. If you’re looking to work with someone who is warm, inclusive, compassionate, kinda funny (once you get to know me, of course), and genuinely interested in all people and things, then we’re probably a good fit.
My approach is holistic and uniquely tailored to you. I gravitate toward a variety of approaches (Person-centered, Narrative, Existential, Acceptance & Commitment, Attachment Theory, Emotionally Focused, etc.), but our work together will fit your specific needs. My goal is to help you gain awareness, practice self-care, develop self-expression, and tackle challenges. I respect your individual path to healing.
For intimate partners, I will work with you to identify areas of concern, set intentions, and cultivate a more secure bond. Partners-work is more than learning skills; it’s about attuning to your partner’s needs–being deeply present, aware, and responsive to the emotional state of another. It’s about creating a sense of harmony, safety, and being “felt”.
I get that therapy can feel a little strange at first. My job is to provide you with a safe, non-judgmental, and supportive environment in which you can explore your experiences and build the confidence to make informed choices based on your personal values. I have deep respect for people who are willing to be open and vulnerable, so I hope our time together enables you to achieve greater self-awareness and self-acceptance. I also hope it empowers you to become a strong self-advocate. I’m in this with you, as a partner and an ally
As long as you keep secrets and suppress information, you are fundamentally at war with yourself…The critical issue is allowing yourself to know what you know. That takes an enormous amount of courage. – Bessel A. van der Kolk.
